Sahil Prasad, representing Nadi Sport’s Club, claimed the prestigious South Seas Club Trustees Cup for an impressive third consecutive time on Saturday in Lautoka. In a memorable final, Sahil triumphed over his father, Yogen Prasad, with a score of 2-0.
The victory not only earned Sahil a $1,000 prize but also marked a heartwarming moment for the family, as Yogen took home $500 and a trophy as the runner-up. Sahil expressed his satisfaction with the win, acknowledging the challenges of defending his title and the significance of competing against his father in the final. “It’s been a very good Christmas for us this year,” he remarked.
Sahil’s path to the championship included a decisive quarterfinal match against Sigatoka’s top player, Sanjeev Nadi, which he won 2-0, followed by a semi-final victory over Jiten Prasad, Fiji’s current third-ranked player. Reflecting on the competition throughout the years, Sahil noted the enjoyable rivalry with his father and the overall excitement of the tournament.
Jan Mohammed, chairman of the club’s board of trustees, reaffirmed the club’s commitment to enhancing its reputation as a premier venue for snooker in Fiji.
The quarterfinals featured other notable players, including Sanjeev Nand, Kushaal, Roneel Sami, and Abdul Zaved, alongside top qualifiers Raymond Reddy, Esala Talebula, Lema Matailevu, Navneil Maharaj, Remal Narayan, Vineel Nand, and Salend Gounder.
