Sahil Prasad, representing Nadi Sports Club, successfully clinched the prestigious South Seas Club Trustees Cup for the third consecutive time last Saturday in Lautoka. In a thrilling final, he emerged victorious over his father, Yogen Prasad, with a score of 2-0.
Sahil’s triumph came with a reward of $1,000 in prize money, while his father received $500 along with a trophy for his efforts. Reflecting on his achievement, Sahil expressed the challenges of defending his title, “It’s been really good actually because as the defending champion, it’s always hard to win it again and again.” He joyfully added that this victory made for a wonderful Christmas celebration for their family.
The path to his title saw Sahil outplay Sanjeev Nadi, the top player from Sigatoka, in the quarterfinals, again winning 2-0. He continued his strong performance in the semi-finals, where he defeated Jiten Prasad, currently ranked third in Fiji.
“It’s always been a good tussle throughout these years,” he stated, highlighting the competitive spirit within the family.
Jan Mohammed, chairman of the club’s board of trustees, emphasized the club’s commitment to enhancing its status as a premier venue for snooker in the country.
The tournament also showcased other competitors, including quarterfinalists Sanjeev Nand, Kushaal, Roneel Sami, and Abdul Zaved. Notable qualifiers included Raymond Reddy, Esala Talebula, Lema Matailevu, Navneil Maharaj, Remal Narayan, Vineel Nand, and Savati Natoga.
This event not only reflects the competitive nature of snooker in Fiji but also strengthens family bonds through the shared passion for the sport. It stands as a reminder of the joy and connection that sporting events can bring to families and communities alike.
