A man charged with raping his eldest daughter in 2017 has been sentenced to 13 years, 11 months, and 10 days in prison by the High Court in Suva. The sentencing took place on Wednesday before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.
The man pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape, as reported by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The court revealed that the offenses occurred on five separate occasions between 2017 and 2020.
Despite his repeated actions, the man continually sought forgiveness from both his wife and daughter. However, the court highlighted that his lack of remorse was evident, as he continued to commit the offenses. The prosecution presented a medical report that corroborated the victim’s testimony against her father.
The court noted that the perpetrator was married and had five children. His sentence includes a non-parole period of 12 years.
