Father Sentenced for Inexcusable Crimes Against Daughter

A man charged with raping his eldest daughter in 2017 has been sentenced to 13 years, 11 months, and 10 days in prison by the High Court in Suva. The sentencing took place on Wednesday before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe. The man pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape, as brought forth by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The court heard that the offenses occurred on five separate occasions between 2017 and 2020. Evidence presented included a medical report from the victim, which corroborated the charges against her father. Despite repeatedly asking for forgiveness from both his wife and daughter, the man continued his abusive behavior, demonstrating a lack of remorse.

The court also noted that he was married and had five children. His sentence includes a non-parole period of 12 years.
