A man who was charged with raping his eldest daughter in 2017 has been sentenced to 13 years, 11 months, and 10 days in prison by the High Court in Suva. The sentencing took place on Wednesday before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.
The man pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape, as brought forward by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The court heard that the offenses occurred on five separate occasions between 2017 and 2020.
During the proceedings, it was noted that despite repeatedly committing the act, the man sought forgiveness from both his wife and daughter. A medical report presented by the State Prosecution confirmed the allegations against him.
The court’s judgment revealed that the man was married and had five children. His actions, coupled with his requests for forgiveness, indicated a lack of remorse. He will serve a non-parole period of 12 years as part of his sentence.
