A man convicted of raping his eldest daughter in 2017 has been sentenced to 13 years, 11 months, and 10 days in prison, as determined by the High Court in Suva on Friday. The sentencing occurred during his appearance before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe on Wednesday.

The defendant pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape, as brought forward by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The court was informed that the offenses took place on five separate occasions between 2017 and 2020.

Despite repeatedly committing the crimes, the man sought forgiveness from both his wife and daughter. A medical report presented by the prosecution confirmed the allegations against him.

The court also heard that the man is married and has five children. His actions suggest a lack of remorse, with the perpetrator continuing to commit the offenses while asking for forgiveness. His sentence includes a non-parole period of 12 years.
