Fatal crash on Queens Road in Nadi sparks road-safety push ahead of the holidays

A man in his late 50s has been identified as the latest road casualty after a tragic motor vehicle accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning on Queens Road near Navo, Nadi. The victim was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by a 42-year-old man, who reportedly lost control, resulting in the vehicle veering off the road. Despite immediate medical assistance, the passenger unfortunately succumbed to the injuries sustained during the crash.

The driver has also suffered injuries and is currently being treated at Nadi Hospital. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, as this brings the national road death toll to 59 for the year, a significant increase compared to 44 fatalities recorded during the same period last year.

This disturbing trend highlights the ongoing issues surrounding road safety in the region. Law enforcement and road safety advocates are stressing the importance of responsible driving to mitigate further tragedies, especially with the festive season approaching. Past incidents on the same road demonstrate a persistent danger, prompting ongoing calls for improved safety measures and heightened awareness among drivers.

While the rise in road fatalities is concerning, there is hope that through collective efforts—educational campaigns and stricter enforcement of traffic laws—the number of tragic incidents can be reduced in the future. Communities are encouraged to actively engage in safe driving practices, aiming for a safer driving environment as they prepare for the holidays ahead.
