Students who have recently completed their Year 13 examinations now have the opportunity to transition directly into teacher training programs. Aseri Radrodro, the Minister for Education, announced this new initiative, a collaboration involving the Government, Teacher Training Institutions, the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority, the Higher Education Commission Fiji, and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service.

The initiative will kick off with interviews for qualified Year 13 students eager to enroll in teacher training institutions across the four divisions. Radrodro expressed enthusiasm about this chance for new graduates to enter the teaching profession and influence the educational landscape in Fiji: “This is an exciting opportunity for those who have completed Year 13 and aspire to join the teaching profession to shape the future of education in our nation.”

Highlighting the pressing need for qualified educators, the Minister emphasized that it is crucial for teacher training programs to be both rigorous and appealing to the right candidates. He noted that this initiative stems from discussions at the Education Summit and aims to attract individuals who are passionate about teaching.

Eligible students will receive notifications regarding interview dates and venues via emails and phone calls.

This initiative not only aims to address the demand for teachers in Fiji but also creates a pathway for motivated students to pursue their passion for education. It reflects a proactive approach to enhancing the quality of education in the country by ensuring that its future teachers are well-prepared and enthusiastic about their roles.
