Fast Food Giant Expands into Lami and Nausori

Lami and Nausori will soon welcome McDonald’s outlets as Vuvale Restaurants (Fiji) Limited, the parent company of McDonald’s Fiji, embarks on expansion plans. Managing Director Marc McElrath announced that the expansions would take place in the next 12 to 18 months.

“We have acquired a property in Lami, which is currently undergoing the re-zoning process. The required design work is being done in New Zealand,” he said. “Lami is a growing area, and the traffic between Lami, Pacific Harbour, and the Western Division is increasing every week.”

McDonald’s Nakasi, which opened last month, has seen great success, according to Mr. McElrath. The new outlet has created 55 jobs primarily for school leavers, bringing McDonald’s Fiji’s total workforce to around 400 people.

Regarding expansion into Nausori, Mr. McElrath mentioned that it was a predictable step. “We are scrutinizing different sites there,” he said. “Extensive work has also been done in Labasa on site selection. We have engaged with several people and explored various areas. We aim to confirm something within the next four months to facilitate our move into Vanua Levu.”
