Vasiti Soko, the Director of the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), is leaving her role to start a new chapter in the United States, marking the end of her prominent presence in media during natural disasters. She has been a crucial voice advising Fijians on safety measures and details regarding evacuation centers.
On Thursday evening, she was honored with a farewell by the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka, alongside Assistant Minister Jovesa Vocea.
Minister Ditoka praised Ms. Soko, stating, “Her contributions have been nothing short of extraordinary. Under her leadership, the NDMO has become a model of excellence, recognized for its proactive strategies and innovative approaches to disaster preparedness, mitigation, and response.” He noted her relentless efforts to enhance the national disaster management framework, better equipping communities to confront the challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters.
Ms. Soko has served in her position for five years and is noted for being the first woman to hold this role.
