Members of Parliament and the Parliament secretariat bid farewell to the Speaker of Parliament and President-elect, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, during a formal gathering yesterday. This occasion provided an excellent opportunity to recognize Ratu Naiqama’s leadership and contributions over his two-year tenure as he prepares to take on his new position as Head of State.
During his farewell address, Ratu Naiqama emphasized the importance of the continuity of public service, stating, “I will be going across to the other side of the ground just to continue the work there. I’m not there to finish it; I’m just there to continue the work.” His remarks reflect a commitment to ongoing service and dedication to the people of Fiji.
Opposition Member Viliame Naupoto spoke on behalf of all Members and Parliament staff, expressing deep appreciation for Ratu Naiqama’s leadership and unwavering commitment during his time as Speaker. He conveyed heartfelt gratitude by saying, “We wish to express our sincere gratitude for your wisdom, sound leadership, guidance, and kind heart for leading the Parliament of Fiji over the past two years.”
Ratu Naiqama is set to take the Oath of Office as the President of Fiji at the State House on Tuesday, 12 November 2024, at 11 am, marking the transition to this significant new chapter in his public service journey.
