Members of Parliament and the Parliament secretariat gathered to bid farewell to Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the outgoing Speaker of Parliament and President-elect, during a ceremony held yesterday. This occasion provided a fitting opportunity to acknowledge Ratu Naiqama’s leadership and contributions over the past two years as he prepares to step into his new role as the Head of State.

In his farewell address, Ratu Naiqama emphasized the ongoing nature of public service, stating, “I will be going across to the other side of the ground just to continue the work there. I’m not there to finish it, I’m just there to continue the work.” His remarks reflect a strong commitment to the principles of service and continuity in governance.

Opposition Member Viliame Naupoto spoke on behalf of all Members and staff of Parliament, extending heartfelt thanks for Ratu Naiqama’s dedication and leadership during his term. Naupoto expressed, “We wish to express our sincere gratitude for your wisdom, sound leadership, guidance, and kind heart for leading the Parliament of Fiji over the past two years.”

Ratu Naiqama is set to take the Oath of Office for the President of Fiji at the State House on Tuesday, 12 November 2024 at 11am, marking a significant transition in his public service career.
