Members of Parliament and the parliamentary secretariat gathered yesterday to bid farewell to Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the Speaker of Parliament and now President-elect. This occasion served as an ideal opportunity to acknowledge Ratu Naiqama’s leadership and significant contributions over his two-year tenure, as he prepares to step into his new role as Head of State.
In his farewell address, Ratu Naiqama emphasized the importance of continuity in public service. He stated, “I will be going across to the other side of the ground just to continue the work there. I’m not there to finish it, I’m just there to continue the work,” highlighting his commitment to serving the nation in a different capacity.
Opposition Member Viliame Naupoto spoke on behalf of the Members and staff of Parliament, expressing their heartfelt appreciation for Ratu Naiqama’s exemplary leadership and dedication during his time in office. He conveyed their gratitude by stating, “We wish to express our sincere gratitude for your wisdom, sound leadership, guidance, and kind heart for leading the Parliament of Fiji over the past two years.”
Ratu Naiqama will officially take the Oath of Office as the President of Fiji on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11 am at the State House.
