Vasiti Soko, the Director of the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), is set to leave her role as she begins a new chapter in the United States. Known for her prominent presence in media during natural disasters, she has played a crucial role in advising the public on safety measures and evacuation procedures.
Farewell remarks were delivered by Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka, along with Assistant Minister Jovesa Vocea, on Thursday evening. Mr. Ditoka praised Ms. Soko’s invaluable contributions, noting that under her leadership, the NDMO has emerged as a benchmark for excellence, recognized for its proactive and innovative strategies in disaster preparedness and response.
He emphasized her tireless efforts in enhancing the national disaster management framework, which has better equipped communities to confront the increasing challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters. Ms. Soko has held the position for five years, making history as the first female to do so.
