The FANCA football tournament kicks off today at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, Fiji, as the Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and America (FANCA) collective brings together teams from five nations for a multi-sport festival. The event showcases football alongside volleyball and netball, highlighting Fiji’s growing role as a hub for regional sport.
Football is the main draw, with 31 teams competing across several divisions: 16 in the Premier division, six in the Under-17 (U17) category, four in the Masters division, and five in the Legends division. Local powerhouses are expected to put up a bold challenge against overseas clubs, with Rewa, Ba, and Nadi among those anticipated to contend for the FANCA title.
In addition to football, the festival features 10 volleyball teams and 12 netball teams, making it a broader celebration of sport and community engagement. Entry to the tournament is $5, inviting families and fans to enjoy a full weekend of action.
Today’s schedule opens with a Legends match between United Legends and Western Sydney at 5pm, followed by the official opening ceremony at 7:45pm. The football program continues with Nadi taking on Varavu at 8:15pm, after Ba versus Magania kicks off at 9:30pm.
This event underlines Fiji’s capacity to host multi-nation sports festivals and offers a platform for local clubs to compete against international sides, while also providing entertainment for fans and opportunities for communities to come together through sport. Expect a lively atmosphere, competitive matches, and a showcase of talent from across the FANCA participants. If you’re planning to attend, it should be an exciting weekend of football and multi-sport action in Nadi.
