A family in Malawai, Nadi, is now homeless after a significant fire engulfed their two-storey, seven-bedroom home, along with their shop and Kava Bar, early yesterday morning.

The property, owned by Abdul Munaf, had served as a family business for over 35 years. His son, Nazil Nabeel, shared that the shop had closed for the night on Saturday, and all family members were asleep when the blaze started. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Muhammad Munaf explained, “The fire is thought to have originated from the back. My two-bedroom apartment, along with the shop and Kava Bar, were all located downstairs, while our family home with five bedrooms was upstairs.” He added, “We were unable to save anything except the clothes we were wearing. Currently, we are homeless and unsure where to go next. My parents are staying at a friend’s place.”

He described the loss as a heart-wrenching experience. “We were in tears at the sight of everything we had worked for being destroyed in the flames,” he stated. The estimated cost of damages exceeds $100,000.

Officials from the National Fire Authority have confirmed that they are investigating the incident, and police are also conducting an inquiry.
