This year promises to be unforgettable for Isimeli Tavo Labalaba as he celebrated his 42nd birthday yesterday. The milestone became even more special as he witnessed his daughter, Francis Grace Siganisucu Labalaba, 21, graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce in Banking and Management from Fiji National University, held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
Mr. Labalaba described the day as “the best gift ever,” reflecting on the significance of the occasion and the family’s accomplishments. His wife, Iliseva, aged 45, is also marking her own success, as she is set to graduate today with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Leadership and Management.
This dual graduation represents a remarkable achievement for the Labalaba family. Mr. Labalaba expressed his pride and gratitude, stating, “This is a milestone achievement for our family. We’ve always prayed and worked hard to see this day, and it is finally here and very overwhelming.”
Elated by their academic accomplishments, both mother and daughter expressed their immense pride in sharing this journey. Francis acknowledged her mother’s unwavering support, saying, “I can’t express how proud I am to be graduating with my mother.” She highlighted her gratitude, attributing her success to her family’s strong support, particularly her mother’s guidance despite the challenges they faced along the way.
The family dynamic was pivotal; Francis changed campuses after Iliseva’s transfer to Aspen Medical Lautoka Hospital, which allowed them to stay close. While working in the finance department at Fiji Airports, Francis managed to balance her studies with her family life.
As they prepare for a week of celebrations, Iliseva remains optimistic about the future, emphasizing that this achievement is just a stepping stone. “Success knows no age, so keep at it and study as much as you want,” she encouraged.
This inspiring story highlights the power of family unity and support in achieving personal and academic goals. The Labalaba family’s journey not only celebrates individual milestones but also reinforces the idea that with determination and collaboration, success is accessible to everyone, regardless of age or challenges faced.
The achievements of both Iliseva and Francis encourage others to pursue their education and strive for success, embodying the belief that it’s never too late to reach one’s goals.
