Twelve excruciating days have gone by since 29-year-old Arvin Chand went missing, leaving his family engulfed in sorrow and uncertainty.
What should have been a festive Diwali for Arvin’s parents turned into a heart-wrenching ordeal. A professional bus driver, Arvin had been driving a taxi as a favor for a friend when he departed from home on November 2. That morning, he informed his mother that he was going to work but did not say goodbye. It turned out to be the last moment they would see him.
On November 4, two days later, Arvin’s taxi was found abandoned near the Suva Flea Market, with the doors left ajar and the keys sitting on the seat—yet he was nowhere to be located.
The police have commenced an investigation, but so far, no significant leads have emerged, leaving his family caught in a painful limbo of hope and despair. Satya Chand, Arvin’s father, shared the torment of not knowing where his son is: “I haven’t slept properly for days. My wife and I pray every moment, hoping for a miracle that our son walks back through that door safe and sound,” he expressed, his voice reflecting deep emotional pain.
The Chand family has tirelessly searched familiar areas and contacted relatives and friends, but each passing day without news adds to their anguish. They remain steadfast in their hope that Arvin will return, even amid rising uncertainty.
Arvin was last seen wearing a blue dotted shirt, black jeans, and black safety boots. He resides with his parents on Farm Road, 10 Miles, Nausori. A missing person’s report has been filed at the Nakasi Police Station, and the Fiji Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to finding him. In a heartfelt appeal, Mr. Chand urged anyone with information to step forward. “Please, if anyone knows anything, help us find our son,” he implored.
While the situation remains dire, the unwavering hope of the Chand family illustrates the strength of love and resilience in adversity. Their determination to find Arvin serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us that communities come together in times of crisis, often leading to breakthroughs in even the most challenging situations.
This heartfelt plea shines a light on the profound impact of missing persons cases on families, urging all of us to remain vigilant and compassionate in our communities. We can only hope for Arvin’s safe return and for his family’s heartache to transform into relief.
