A family in Malawai, Nadi, has been left homeless after a fire completely destroyed their two-storey, seven-bedroom house, along with their shop and Kava Bar. The incident occurred yesterday morning.
The property, owned by Abdul Munaf, had served as a family business for over 35 years. His son, Nazil Nabeel, shared that the shop was closed on Saturday night and the family was asleep when the fire erupted. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
“The fire is believed to have started from the back. My two-bedroom apartment, the shop, and Kava bar were all located downstairs, while our family home with five bedrooms was upstairs,” Mr. Munaf explained. “We couldn’t save anything except the clothes on our backs. Right now, we are homeless, and we don’t know where to go. My parents are staying with friends.”
He described the loss as an extremely painful experience. “We were in tears witnessing everything we worked hard for go up in flames,” he lamented. The estimated damage has been assessed at over $100,000.
The National Fire Authority has confirmed that their officers responded to the fire and are investigating the cause. The police are also conducting their own inquiry.
