Family Left Homeless After Devastating Fire Destroys Their Business and Home

A family of seven has been left homeless following a devastating fire that engulfed their two-storey, seven-bedroom house, along with their shop and Kava Bar in Malawai, Nadi, yesterday morning.

The property, owned by Abdul Munaf, had served as a family business for more than 35 years. His son, Nazil Nabeel, reported that the shop had closed on Saturday night, and all family members were asleep when the fire broke out. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

“The fire is believed to have started from the back. My two-bedroom apartment, the shop, and the Kava bar are all downstairs, while our family home with five bedrooms is upstairs,” Mr. Munaf explained.

He added, “We couldn’t save anything except the clothes we were wearing. Right now, we are homeless and don’t know where to stay. My parents are at a friend’s place.” The family described the loss as a painful experience, expressing their sorrow as they witnessed the destruction of their hard work.

The estimated damage from the fire is over $100,000. The National Fire Authority has confirmed that its officers responded to the incident and are investigating its cause. Police have also stated that an investigation is underway.
