Family Left Homeless After Devastating Fire Destroys Long-Running Business

A family in Nadi, Fiji, has been left homeless after a devastating fire destroyed their two-storey home, along with their family business, a shop, and a Kava Bar. The fire occurred early yesterday morning in Malawai, impacting seven family members.

The property, owned by Abdul Munaf, had been part of their family for over 35 years. His son, Nazil Nabeel, shared that the family had closed the shop on Saturday night and was asleep when the fire started. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

According to Mr. Munaf, “The fire is believed to have started from the back. My two-bedroom apartment, a shop, and Kava bar are all downstairs. Upstairs was our family home with five bedrooms.” He lamented that they managed to save only the clothes they were wearing. Currently, they are relying on friends for shelter.

Mr. Munaf expressed the emotional toll of the loss, stating, “We were in tears witnessing all that we have sweated for being destroyed in the flames.” The estimated damage is reported to exceed $100,000.

Officials from the National Fire Authority have confirmed their attendance at the scene and are conducting an investigation, a process that is also being supported by local police.
