Family Left Homeless After Devastating Fire Destroys Business and Home

A family of seven has lost their home following a tragic fire that engulfed their two-storey residence, along with their shop and Kava Bar, in Malawai, Nadi, yesterday morning. The commercial establishment, owned by Abdul Munaf, had been a family business for more than 35 years.

According to Mr. Munaf’s son, Nazil Nabeel, the shop was closed on Saturday night, and the family was asleep when the blaze erupted. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

“The fire is believed to have started from the back. My two-bedroom apartment, the shop, and the Kava Bar were located downstairs, while our family home with five bedrooms was upstairs,” Mr. Munaf explained. “We were unable to save anything except for the clothes we were wearing. Currently, we are without a home and don’t know where to go. My parents are staying with a friend.”

He expressed the emotional toll of the loss. “It was heartbreaking to watch everything we worked hard for turn to ashes,” he lamented.

The estimated cost of the damage exceeds $100,000. The National Fire Authority has confirmed that their officers responded to the incident and are investigating its cause, while the police have also launched an inquiry.
