Family Left Homeless After Devastating Fire

A family in Korotale, Rakiraki, has been left homeless following a fire that destroyed their house on Thursday afternoon. The property, owned by Danish Raju, was unoccupied at the time of the incident. Puamau Sowane, the CEO of the National Fire Authority, reported that the damage is estimated to be around $60,000.

Sowane expressed concern over the rising number of structural fires in the western division, particularly involving vacant homes, and emphasized that this trend reflects a lack of adherence to basic fire safety principles. He urged the public to exercise caution when leaving their homes by ensuring all electrical appliances are switched off and recommending that a licensed electrician inspect home wiring.

He also noted that dry and windy conditions in the western division have significantly contributed to the occurrence of these fires.
