Fiji’s top-ranked snooker player, Sahil Prasad from Nadi Sports Club, achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the South Seas Club Trustees Cup for the third consecutive time last Saturday in Lautoka. In a thrilling final, he defeated his father, Yogen Prasad, with a score of 2-0.
Sahil’s victory came with a prize of $1000, while Yogen received $500 along with a trophy. Reflecting on his win, Sahil expressed the challenge of defending his title, noting, “It’s always hard to win it again and again.” He shared that this holiday season has been particularly joyous for them, highlighting the special experience of competing against his dad in the final.
Sahil’s path to the championship included a strong performance against Sanjeev Nadi, Sigatoka’s top player, defeating him 2-0 in the quarterfinals, followed by a semi-final win over Jiten Prasad, currently ranked third in Fiji. “I’m glad that I beat him to win the championship title again,” he stated, underscoring the competitive spirit between him and his father.
The chairman of the club’s board of trustees, Jan Mohammed, affirmed the club’s commitment to enhancing its status as a premier venue for snooker in Fiji. The tournament also featured other notable quarterfinalists including Sanjeev Nand, Kushaal, Roneel Sami, and Abdul Zaved. Additionally, the competition saw top 16 qualifiers such as Raymond Reddy and Esala Talebula, among others.
This event not only showcases the talent within Fiji’s snooker arena but also reflects a heartwarming family dynamic where competition brings about joy and growth. With continued support and development, Fiji can look forward to nurturing even more sporting talent in the future.
