A family faced a devastating loss after their apartment was destroyed in a fire on Nasoki Street in Lautoka yesterday around midday. The family, overwhelmed by the tragedy, was not prepared to speak about the incident.
Witnesses from the neighborhood expressed their relief that no individuals were injured during the blaze. The National Fire Authority (NFA) responded quickly to the situation, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to nearby homes.
NFA Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane reported that firefighters arrived at the scene at 12:03 PM and found a combined structure of concrete and wood, housing three flats, completely consumed by flames.
“They promptly set up a firefighting line using two hoses from their tank supply to prevent the fire from advancing towards adjacent properties just meters away,” stated Mr. Sowane.
With the assistance of a fire hydrant from Vitogo Parade, the crew managed to bring the fire under control. However, firefighters remained on-site until 4 PM to address any remaining hotspots.
The property, which belonged to a 70-year-old woman, saw all three flats affected, with two of them occupied by tenants. The structure sustained total damage, and the overall cost of the destruction remains undetermined.
