The Western Division is currently focusing on distributing food rations to 61 families residing in evacuation centers, as stated by Divisional Commissioner Apolosi Lewaqai. Dedicated teams are actively engaged in this effort, particularly in Nadi, where food is being provided to evacuees at Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.

Lewaqai explained that, in accordance with emergency guidelines, food rations are distributed to evacuees 48 hours post-evacuation. Teams are currently preparing the necessary food packages, aiming to complete the distribution for these families within the day.

In addition to food distribution, Lewaqai highlighted that teams are assessing the local situation, specifically evaluating homes and water levels that may remain after the recent adverse conditions. Though the weather is currently clear, the Fiji Meteorological Service has forecast potential rainfall in the coming days due to lingering cloud cover.

He urged the public to utilize protective gear, such as sturdy shoes, during cleanup activities and to seek assistance from the Ministry of Health’s public health professionals for added support. He encouraged individuals to take advantage of the favorable weather while remaining cautious.

Emergency operations centers will continue to function, with ongoing assessments planned to determine the extent of damage and assistance needs in affected areas, as indicated by the Fiji Meteorological Service’s projections of rain over the weekend.

This proactive approach demonstrates the resilience and resourcefulness of the Western Division’s response teams, providing essential support to those in need while prioritizing the health and safety of the community. It serves as a reminder of the strength found in unity during challenging times.

In conclusion, the community’s efforts, supported by local authorities and health professionals, reflect a commitment to recovery and rebuilding, paving the way for hope and renewal as they work together through adversity.
