Fallen Tree Causes Power Outage: What You Need to Know

A power outage is impacting customers in the Central Division of Viti Levu this afternoon.

Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) CEO Hasmukh Patel reported that the issue was caused by a tree being cut in Waibau; the tree accidentally fell onto the 132,000-volt transmission line. This incident interrupted the transmission of power from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva.

Patel informed that teams are en route to remove the fallen tree from the transmission line so that the line can be re-energized.

EFL has cautioned the public to treat all power lines as live and to maintain a safe distance, as they can become energized at any moment under certain conditions.

The company has apologized for the unexpected power disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, which is beyond their control, and they are seeking the understanding and cooperation of their valued customers.
