Police Constable Peniasi Waqawai Racagi was honored as a hero during his burial ceremony on Sunday, following his tragic death while serving in the line of duty. The ceremony took place in his home village of Naviqiri, located in the province of Bua. A large gathering of delegates, members of the Fiji Police Force, family, villagers, and loved ones came together to pay their respects.

Racagi’s life was cut short under distressing circumstances, as he was found dead in Lami just last month. In connection with his murder, two individuals have been charged. At the burial, Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu expressed his condolences and sought forgiveness from Racagi’s family and the community for the police force’s failures that contributed to this loss.

The Commissioner characterized Racagi as a dedicated and disciplined officer who was deeply committed to protecting others. He emphasized that Racagi’s passing represents a significant loss not just for his family and the police force but also for the entire nation. “His courage, loyalty, and service will never be forgotten,” Tudravu remarked.

Racagi had joined the Fiji Police Force in July 2022; he completed his Basic Recruit Course and earned a Certificate in Policing Level 4. He was assigned to various roles at Lami Police Station as well as community positions, where he became known for his willingness to go above and beyond in his duties. In 2025, he completed the Constable Qualifying Course, further dedicating himself to the Lami Operations Team.

Throughout his three years and seven months of service, Racagi built a reputation as a reliable and trusted officer within his community, responding to reports, investigating incidents, and engaging with local residents at all hours. His dedication to service exemplified the values of the Fiji Police Force, leaving a lasting impact on both his colleagues and the community he served.
