Faith Leaders Unite for Creation: Join the Ecumenical Prayer Service!

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suva, in partnership with various Faith-Based Organizations, will conduct an Ecumenical and Interreligious Season of Creation Prayer Service on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Ratu Sukuna Park, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

The Season of Creation is observed each year from September 1 to October 4 and acts as a global celebration of prayer and action aimed at safeguarding our shared environment. This period serves to honor God as the Creator of all and acknowledges Creation as a divine blessing that calls for collective responsibility in its care and preservation.

This year’s theme, “To Hope and Act with Creation,” encourages individuals of faith to engage with hope amidst the pressing global environmental challenges including climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

In the face of widespread eco-anxiety, faith communities are urged to find resilience in their beliefs and actively engage in meaningful actions through prayer, service, and solidarity.

Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, the leader of the Catholic Church in Fiji, emphasized the importance of collective effort among faith groups, stating, “It is crucial that we all work together through our faith to amplify the message of protecting our common home, which is a key message of this Ecumenical Service.”

The Archdiocese hopes that everyone attending will help spread the message of environmental stewardship and the significance of faith in preserving our planet, coming together in both prayer and action for the Earth.
