A 24-year-old man is set to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon, where he is facing a charge of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception.

The case came to light after an investigation by the Fiji Police Mpaisa task force. It is alleged that on February 9, 2024, the accused unlawfully acquired $475 from a victim under the pretense of a payment for a car part that was advertised on Facebook. Following the transaction, the accused reportedly severed all communication with the victim, prompting the investigation.

The accused, who resides in Makoi, is now facing legal repercussions for his actions.

This situation underscores the importance of exercising caution during online transactions. As digital marketplaces continue to grow, consumers must remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to scams. Law enforcement’s proactive approach in investigating such incidents is commendable, as it serves to protect the public and foster a safer online environment for purchasing goods.
