A 24-year-old man is set to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today facing charges of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception. This follows an investigation by the Fiji Police Mpaisa task force, which found that the man allegedly tricked a victim into paying $475 for a car part that was advertised on Facebook, on February 9, 2024.

After receiving the payment, the accused reportedly severed all communication with the victim, prompting legal action. The man, who lives in Makoi, is currently awaiting court proceedings where he will respond to the charges brought against him.

This incident highlights the importance of vigilance in online transactions, especially on social media platforms. As the case unfolds, it serves as a reminder to consumers to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of sellers before making payments. Community awareness and education around online safety could help prevent similar incidents in the future.
