Retired school principal Kuber Singh recently expressed his gratitude for the free cataract surgery he received last year and is urging Fijians to prioritize regular eye examinations, highlighting the importance of eye health. Mr. Singh, accompanied by his wife, Kusum Lata Singh, visited the Pacific Eye Institute in Suva, where Kusum had eye surgery by the Guangdong Bright Journey medical team of China.
Kuber reflected on his own positive experience with cataract surgery, stating, “I had the cataract operation last year by this Chinese group… I have got perfect vision now; I don’t need to use glasses to read or watch TV.” He emphasized his appreciation for the Chinese medical team’s support and called on anyone experiencing vision difficulties to seek eye care, as “it is very important” to maintain good eyesight.
Kusum, who had struggled with vision problems for three years, shared her relief after undergoing surgery. She noted, “I couldn’t see with my right eye; all of a sudden, my vision got blurry… I registered in 2022 for a cataract surgery and I just got it yesterday.” She expressed her eagerness to care for her grandchildren more easily now that her vision has improved.
The Guangdong Bright Journey medical team is currently providing free clinics and surgeries to over 100 patients across several Pacific Island nations, making a significant impact on the communities they serve.
This story serves as a reminder of the critical role that accessible health services play in improving lives and showcases the importance of regular health screenings. With the continued support from international medical teams, many individuals can regain their vision and enhance their quality of life.
