Extra Bula FC is set to face a challenging stretch in the OFC Pro League as they prepare to play four matches within a two-week period, with only two days of recovery between each game. Their campaign kicks off this Sunday against Vanuatu United, followed by a midweek encounter with Hekari United, a clash with Solomon Kings FC next Saturday, and concludes with a match against South Island United on March 3.

Head coach Stephane Auvray emphasized the necessity for player rotation during this demanding schedule, particularly to manage fitness levels and maintain performance. “With only two days of recovery in between games, we have to rotate the injury-free players,” Auvray stated. He added that the team is adopting a strategy similar to their last series of matches, where players who did not feature in the first game took the field for the second.

Auvray highlighted the importance of inclusivity within the squad, indicating that all players will have the opportunity to contribute. “We want to ensure that everyone can gel well with all teammates, so when it’s game time, you can put anyone in different positions without any issue. Most players understand that there are no guaranteed starters,” he remarked.

Unfortunately, four players, including Gabiriele Matanisiga, will miss this series as they recover from injuries. Matanisiga is currently dealing with back issues, while Ryan Naresh, Delon Shankar, and Veleni Rasorewa are on the mend but making progress. Auvray noted that Naresh had been nearing peak physical condition before his setback in New Zealand, and younger players like Veleni are still recovering.

The upcoming match against Vanuatu United is set to kick off at 1 PM at the Olympic Village in Melbourne, Australia, and the team’s commitment to a strong and flexible approach may well prove to be the key to navigating this intensive fixture schedule.
