Extra Bula FC faced a disappointing defeat on Sunday, despite displaying dominance for significant stretches of the match. Head coach Stephane Auvray expressed frustration not due to being outmatched, but because his team is struggling to convert opportunities into goals.
“The frustration is just because we are not scoring; otherwise, what could we really be frustrated about?” Auvray commented in the post-match press conference. Bula FC maintained possession and effectively limited Vanuatu to few real scoring chances. Despite their solid defense, the inability to find the back of the net has become a source of frustration.
Auvray described his experience from the sidelines as increasingly trying, stating, “The biggest challenge is sitting on the bench and just watching us shooting on the crossbar, the goalkeeper, off target… the ball gets on the line but doesn’t get in. That’s the biggest frustration.” This ongoing goal drought even prompted Auvray to deviate from his usual strategic approach during the match, as he noted, “I think I lost this today. There was so much space to win the game that I kind of broke our structure and really played to win, which at the end of the day was not very productive.”
Player Adam Supyk echoed Auvray’s sentiments, expressing that the situation is indeed frustrating. “Frustrating probably is the word for me. We’re doing pretty much everything right apart from the final task of putting the ball in the goal,” he remarked.
Despite the tough loss, there remains a sense of optimism within the team. Supyk shared a hopeful outlook, suggesting that once they score their first goal, it could trigger an influx of goals in future matches. This belief hints at a potential turning point for Extra Bula FC as they aim to break their scoring drought and secure much-needed victories ahead.
