2025 is set to be a landmark year for women’s cricket in Fiji, bringing noteworthy developments and exciting opportunities for players. The Fijian women’s team will participate in the inaugural Four Nations tournament, taking place in New Caledonia. Additionally, they will host the ICC T20 East Asia Pacific qualifier for the first time.
Cricket Fiji’s chief executive officer, Sitiveni Rokoro, announced that seven teams will compete in this qualifier, including Japan, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Samoa, Cook Islands, and Fiji. The winner of this tournament will earn a coveted spot in the Women’s World Cup in 2026, highlighting the significance of the event for participants.
Following the conclusion of the Suva T20 League, a national squad will be selected to represent Fiji at the Four Nations tournament, organized by Cricket France and scheduled for March. Moreover, a Fiji secondary school under-19 tournament is set for January, aimed at fostering youth talent in cricket.
Rokoro also mentioned a training squad has already been established for U19 boys, who will compete in the World Cup qualifiers in Japan this upcoming April. Furthermore, there is considerable enthusiasm from cricket associations regarding the annual Easter senior men’s tournament, with each association eager to submit two teams. The top eight teams from this Easter tournament will advance to a super eight competition later in the year, with specific dates still to be confirmed.
Overall, these events not only promise to enhance women’s cricket in Fiji but also showcase the growing interest and investment in the sport across all levels. The revival of youth tournaments and focused training initiatives illustrates a commitment to developing future cricket talent in the nation, creating a hopeful, flourishing cricketing environment.
