The Suva Open Tennis Championship is set to attract over a hundred tennis players from Fiji and the Pacific region.
Officially launched on Wednesday, the event also marked the announcement of Vodafone Fiji’s continued sponsorship for a second year.
Antonio Kitione, Head of Enterprise Development at Vodafone Fiji, revealed that the partnership with Suva Tennis has been extended until 2026.
Kitione highlighted the shared values of passion, dedication, and excellence that both Vodafone Fiji and tennis represent.
“We want to reflect our belief in the importance of fostering talent, promoting healthy competition, and building a strong community around the sport of tennis,” he said.
Manu’hapai Jioji Qaqaturaga, a member of the Suva Tennis executive committee, expressed her gratitude towards Vodafone for their support.
She emphasized the growth and recognition of local tennis players and noted the unique challenges and benefits tennis offers compared to other sports.
“I’m proud to say that many Suva players have competed at various levels and have been selected for the Fiji team to represent Fiji at the Pacific Games,” Qaqaturaga said.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Vodafone for their unwavering community support, not only in the past year but also in the upcoming years.”
Suva Tennis Coach and former national representative, Andrew Mailtorok, believes the Championship will create more opportunities for young players and further develop the sport in Fiji.
The Vodafone Suva Open Tennis Championship will take place from September 13th to 16th at the Victoria Tennis Court, Suva Lawn Tennis Club, and Pathik Tennis Club in Namadi Heights.
