Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s head coach, Glen Jackson, has announced significant changes to the team’s lineup ahead of their Round 3 match against the Waratahs. After a demanding journey back from Napier, New Zealand, and with only six days to prepare, Jackson has opted to make 10 adjustments to the squad. The lineup appears set to blend fresh talent with seasoned players, offering hope for an improved performance as the Drua seek their first victory of the season.
Among the notable changes, Etonia Waqa makes his return after a long injury layoff, bringing renewed energy to the squad. The centre partnership of Tuidraki Samusamuvodre and Inia Tabuavou remains unchanged, ensuring consistency in the midfield. In the forward pack, Jackson has reinstated Haereiti Hetet at loosehead prop, alongside Samuela Tawake at tighthead and captain Tevita Ikanivere at hooker. The lock positions will feature Isoa Nasilasila and Leone Rotuisolia, while the back row includes Joseva Tamani at blindside flanker, Motikiai Murray at openside, and Meli Derenalagi at number eight.
The backline features Simione Kuruvoli at halfback pairing with Caleb Muntz at flyhalf, supported by wings Vuate Karawalevu and Ponipate Loganimasi, with Ilaisa Droasese rounding out the starting XV at fullback. The bench boasts solid options to make an impact, including Mesulame Dolokoto as backup hooker, Livai Natave at loosehead, and Mesake Doge at tighthead. The experienced Etonia Waqa will cover locks, and Kitione Salawa adds depth in the loose forwards.
This strategic rotation reflects Jackson’s commitment to nurturing player fitness and performance amidst the physical demands of the Super Rugby season. Despite the recent absence of co-captain Frank Lomani and several other players due to injuries, the depth of the squad offers a sense of optimism. Jackson’s confidence in the team’s adaptability further fuels hope that this clash against the Waratahs may mark a turning point for the Drua’s campaign.
As they prepare to face a formidable opponent at Allianz Stadium in Sydney, fans remain hopeful that the combination of returning talents and new additions will propel the Drua toward a competitive performance, turning potential challenges into opportunities for growth.
