Lami and Nausori will soon welcome McDonald’s outlets. Vuvale Restaurants (Fiji) Limited, the parent company of McDonald’s Fiji and a property developer, has announced these new additions as part of its expansion plans.
Managing Director Marc McElrath stated that the expansion will take place over the next 12 to 18 months.
“A property in Lami has been acquired and is currently undergoing the re-zoning process with necessary design work being done in New Zealand,” he said. “Lami is a rapidly growing area, and the traffic between Lami and Pacific Harbour and the Western Division is increasing every week.”
McDonald’s Nakasi recently opened its doors, and according to Mr. McElrath, the restaurant has been highly successful. The new outlet has created 55 new jobs, primarily for school leavers, bringing McDonald’s total workforce in Fiji to about 400 people.
Expansion into Nausori was a foreseeable move, Mr. McElrath said. “We’ll be exploring different sites there,” he stated. “We’ve conducted extensive site selection work in Labasa. Several discussions have taken place, and we’re looking at various areas. We hope to confirm something in the next four months, allowing us to gradually move into Vanua Levu.”
