Frank Lomani, the newly appointed co-captain of Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, is approaching his leadership role with a sense of excitement and humility as the team gears up for the 2025 Super Rugby season. Taking over the captaincy from Ratu Meli Derenalagi, Lomani will be leading in conjunction with Tevita Ikanivere, and he is eager to develop their partnership.

“Exciting times ahead for this group,” Lomani remarked, expressing pride in the team’s growth over the years. He highlighted the maturity of his teammates both on and off the field, noting that their innate leadership inspires him to lead through actions rather than just words.

Although he did not actively pursue the co-captaincy, Lomani embraces the opportunity wholeheartedly. “The management has been trying for a long time to bring me into this role,” he explained. “For me, it was always about just playing rugby and giving my best on the field. You don’t need a captain’s title to play well.” Now, he feels honored to lead an ambitious group of players.

Lomani praised the strong camaraderie and shared vision he has with Ikanivere, which he believes will facilitate their leadership. “With the group we have and with Tevita as co-captain, the work becomes so much easier. It’s an exciting challenge, and I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”

Focusing on leading by example and fostering ambition within the squad, Lomani is set to guide the Fijian Drua towards another impressive performance in the Super Rugby competition.

In summary, Lomani’s appointment as co-captain is seen as a promising development for the team, as he combines humility with enthusiasm to inspire his fellow players. Their leadership duo presents a hopeful outlook for the upcoming season, as they aim to build on their achievements and foster a winning mentality.
