The Fijian Drua and Pacific Fishing Company Pte Limited (PAFCO) have joined forces to introduce the inaugural Sun Bell Drua 10s tournament, scheduled for next month. This event marks the beginning of a three-year sponsorship agreement, making the Sun Bell 10s an annual fixture for the forthcoming years.
Fijian Drua Chief Executive Mark Evans expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with PAFCO, a well-established brand in the region for over five decades. He stated, “It is wonderful for us to welcome an organisation like the Pacific Fishing Company to our family of sponsors. Children in Fiji grew up reading about PAFCO and their important contribution to Fiji’s economy. We are grateful for their support of the Fijian Drua.”
In response, PAFCO Chief Executive Saiyad Raiyum shared his pride in supporting Fijian Drua rugby and expressed excitement about the partnership, particularly through their Sun Bell brand. “We are proud to be associated with the Fijian Drua and support our teams in the Super Rugby Pacific competition. With a brand that has been around for 50 years, we are ecstatic to become a nutritional partner for the Drua teams,” he remarked.
The one-day tournament will feature eight teams, including two from the Drua and six provincial teams. In Pool A, the teams are Fijian Drua Blue, Yasawa Rugby, Nadroga Rugby, and Lautoka Rugby, while Pool B comprises Fijian Drua White, Malolo Rugby, Nadi Rugby, and Ba Rugby. Additionally, the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s team will participate, competing in two internal matches.
The event is set to take place at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Friday, December 13th.
This new partnership and tournament demonstrate a promising development for rugby in Fiji, highlighting community engagement and support from local businesses. The Sun Bell Drua 10s tournament not only enhances the sporting calendar but also reinforces the importance of collaboration between organizations to foster growth and promote healthy lifestyles through sports and nutrition.
