Exciting Draw as Rewa and Suva Battle to 1-1 Tie

National midfielder Tevita Waranaivalu’s timely equalizer helped Rewa secure a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Suva in the feature Digicel Fiji Premier League Round 11 clash at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori today.

Both teams, showcasing new signings, entered the field aiming for victory. The Delta Tigers needed a win to surpass Labasa on the table, while Suva sought a victory to climb out of the relegation zone.

Solomon Islander John Orobulu started for Rewa, with Simione Nabenu in Suva’s starting lineup. New signing Jaygray Sipakana took the field in the second half for Suva.

After a scoreless first half, the visitors broke the deadlock in the 51st minute when Bruce Hughes skillfully maneuvered past three Rewa players and struck a powerful shot. Goalkeeper Isikeli Sevanaia managed to deflect it, but the ball landed perfectly for Mohammed Naizal, who tapped it in.

Rewa’s relentless pressure eventually paid off as Waranaivalu found the back of the net with a well-executed attempt that beat experienced Suva stopper Akuila Mateisuva in the 70th minute.

Both teams fought hard for a winner, but excellent defensive play on both ends prevented either from securing three points in the torrid encounter.

Despite the draw, Extra Supermarket Rewa remains atop the standings with 24 points, equal with Labasa but holding a goal difference of +14 compared to Labasa’s +7. Flick Hygiene Suva has moved to the eighth spot with 9 points, equal with Nasinu but boasting a better goal difference.
