The Tebara FANCA Nations Muslim World Cup Championship 2024 will kick off tomorrow at Churchill Park in Lautoka. This year, five countries—Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States—will compete in the tournament, which runs through Sunday.
Javed Ahmed, president of the Fiji Muslim Sports Association, stated that this biennial event will span five days and feature various categories, including Under-17, Premier, Veterans, Masters, and Legends.
“All five nations have come to participate in the FANCA Nations World Cup,” Ahmed noted. He highlighted that Fiji’s FANCA Premier team emerged victorious in the last tournament held in Nadi in 2022.
As the national president for the Fiji FANCA team, Ahmed acknowledged the challenging competition from the other nations. “Defending our title is important to us. We won in 2022, but this year will be a tough challenge as teams aim to defeat us. However, we have experienced players in our squad, such as Zibraaz Sahib, William Valentine, and Nabil Begg, and we are looking forward to a great tournament,” he said.
In addition to sports like golf and volleyball, this edition will also feature a netball competition for women. Ahmed emphasized that all teams are competing for prestige and pride in the FANCA competition.
The Fiji FANCA Premier management team includes Javed Ahmed, Mohammed Mohin Rafiq, Mohammed Riyaz, M. Zeyaad Hussain, Mohammed Shamil, Abdul Nahid Khan, Mohammed Asif Khan, Varoon Karan, and Abdul Kadar.
