Business is thriving for a sub-clan in Nadi thanks to timely government assistance. Last week, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, who also serves as Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, delivered a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd in Nadi. This event signifies a critical advancement in supporting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable development.

The addition of the excavator is expected to alleviate the financial strain on the company while boosting its productivity. The business has expanded into gravel extraction, making good use of local resources to establish a sustainable enterprise that benefits the members of Sikituru Village.

During the handover, Mr. Kamikamica highlighted the government’s commitment to offering equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the local community’s role in building a successful business. He mentioned that the investment of $78,666.67, sourced through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, reflects the belief in rural enterprises as key drivers of economic growth.

He also pointed out the difficulties that micro and small businesses encounter when seeking financing, reiterating the government’s initiative to explore innovative funding solutions like small grants and crowdfunding. Mr. Kamikamica encouraged community members to participate in upcoming public consultations on the Access to Business Funding Bill, which aims to create alternative financing options.

The new excavator will significantly enhance the company’s operations, leading to increased production and improved efficiency, ultimately benefiting the local economy. “This event underscores the resilience and creativity of our rural populace. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing rural entrepreneurship and creating a prosperous future for all Fijians,” he stated.

Vilikisa Sayabo, the company director, expressed gratitude to the government for their support. He shared, “We established our business two years ago. We initially purchased a truck through gravel extraction but had to hire an excavator from a contractor. This year, with the government’s assistance, we followed the proper procedures and acquired this machine. It will simplify our work and double our production, allowing us to increase our revenue.”
