A sub-clan in Nadi is experiencing renewed business prospects following support from the Government. Last week, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for External Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, presented a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd, marking a vital move in promoting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable development.

The new excavator is expected to alleviate financial pressures for the company and enhance its productivity. Tokatoka Namara has broadened its operations to include gravel extraction, leveraging local resources to establish a sustainable enterprise that benefits Sikituru Village residents.

Mr. Kamikamica reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to ensuring equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the local community for their successful business initiatives. “This investment of $78,666.67, funded through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, reflects our confidence in the ability of rural enterprises to spur economic growth,” he stated.

He acknowledged the difficulties that micro and small businesses encounter when seeking financial support and emphasized the Government’s commitment to pursuing innovative financing solutions, including small business grants and crowdfunding options.

The introduction of the excavator will improve operational capabilities, leading to increased production and efficiency, which will ultimately enhance local economic returns. “This event showcases the resilience and creativity of our rural communities. Together, we reinforce our promise to nurture rural entrepreneurship and create a prosperous future for all Fijians,” he added.

Company director Vilikisa Sayabo expressed gratitude towards the Government for their support. “We established our business two years ago. By extracting gravel, we were able to purchase a truck but relied on hiring an excavator from contractors. With the collaboration with the Government, we navigated the process and received this machine. This excavator will streamline our work and potentially double our production, resulting in increased revenue,” he said.
