A sub-clan in Nadi is experiencing a boost in business thanks to timely government support. Last week, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, presented a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd. This initiative marks a vital step toward fostering rural entrepreneurship and promoting sustainable development.
The provided excavator is expected to alleviate the financial strain on the company and enhance its productivity. The enterprise has expanded into gravel extraction, using local resources to establish a sustainable business that benefits the members of Sikituru Village.
Mr. Kamikamica highlighted the government’s dedication to creating equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the local community’s efforts in building a successful business. He stated, “This investment of $78,666.67, funded through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, reflects our faith in the capacity of rural enterprises to drive economic growth.”
He acknowledged the difficulties faced by micro and small businesses in securing financing and emphasized the government’s commitment to exploring innovative funding solutions, including small loans and crowdfunding.
The new excavator will improve operations, leading to increased production, enhanced efficiency, and greater local economic benefits. “This event showcases the resilience and creativity of our rural communities. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting rural entrepreneurship and creating a prosperous future for all Fijians,” Mr. Kamikamica added.
Company director Vilikisa Sayabo expressed gratitude to the government for their support. He shared, “We established our business two years ago. While we previously hired an excavator from a contractor, receiving this machine through the government’s initiative will greatly ease our work and potentially double our production, resulting in increased revenue.”
