Business prospects have taken a positive turn for a sub-clan in Nadi thanks to prompt assistance from the Government. Recently, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, presented a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd in Nadi. This delivery marks a vital advancement in supporting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable growth.

The new excavator is expected to alleviate financial pressures on the company while boosting its productivity. Tokatoka Namara has diversified its operations into gravel extraction, making use of local resources to establish a sustainable venture that benefits the members of Sikituru Village.

Mr. Kamikamica reiterated the Government’s dedication to ensuring equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the local community’s commitment to fostering a successful business. He stated, “This investment of $78,666.67, funded through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, showcases our confidence in the potential of rural enterprises to stimulate economic growth.”

He also recognized the difficulties faced by micro and small enterprises in acquiring financing, emphasizing the Government’s focus on exploring innovative funding solutions such as small offers and crowdfunding opportunities. Community members were encouraged to participate in upcoming public consultations regarding the Access to Business Funding Bill, which aims to introduce alternative financing methods.

The addition of the excavator will enhance their operations, leading to increased production, improved efficiency, and ultimately greater economic benefits for the local community. “This event reflects the resilience and creativity of our rural population. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to encourage rural entrepreneurship and pave the way for a thriving future for all Fijians,” Mr. Kamikamica remarked.

Company director Vilikisa Sayabo expressed gratitude to the Government for their support. He shared, “We established our business two years ago. Through gravel extraction, we purchased a truck, but we still relied on hiring an excavator from our contractor. With the cooperation facilitated by the Government this year, we followed the necessary steps to receive this machine. The excavator will ease our workload and double our production, allowing us to generate more revenue.”
