A sub-clan in Nadi is experiencing a positive shift in business thanks to timely government assistance. Recently, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, presented a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd in Nadi. This initiative represents a significant advancement in promoting rural entrepreneurship and fostering sustainable development.

The new excavator is expected to ease the company’s financial pressures and enhance productivity. The company has expanded its operations into gravel extraction, utilizing local resources to build a sustainable business that benefits members of Sikituru Village.

Kamikamica highlighted the government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the local community for their successful business efforts. He stated, “This investment of $78,666.67, funded through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, showcases our confidence in rural enterprises as a catalyst for economic growth.” He acknowledged the financial hurdles faced by micro and small businesses and reaffirmed the government’s intention to seek innovative financing options, including small loans and crowdfunding opportunities.

Kamikamica encouraged community participation in upcoming public consultations regarding the Access to Business Funding Bill, which aims to introduce new funding mechanisms. He noted that the excavator will significantly improve operations, leading to higher production rates and enhanced efficiency, thereby generating greater local economic benefits.

“The event is a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of our rural population. Together, we strengthen our dedication to fostering rural entrepreneurship and building a prosperous future for all Fijians,” he added.

Company director Vilikisa Sayabo expressed gratitude to the government for their assistance. He mentioned, “We established our business two years ago. Through gravel extraction, we acquired a truck but had to rent an excavator. Thanks to the cooperation facilitated by the government, we navigated the process and secured this machine. This excavator will reduce our workload and potentially double our production, increasing our revenue.”
