A sub-clan in Nadi is experiencing promising business prospects thanks to support from the government. Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, who also oversees External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, presented a new excavator to the Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd. This initiative marks an important advancement in promoting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable development.
The addition of the excavator is expected to relieve financial pressures on the company while enhancing its productivity. The venture has branched into gravel extraction, utilizing local resources to establish a sustainable business model that benefits the members of Sikituru Village.
Kamikamica highlighted the government’s dedication to creating equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the local community’s efforts in building a successful enterprise. He stated, “This investment of $78,666.67, funded through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, illustrates our confidence in the ability of rural enterprises to fuel economic growth.”
He recognized the difficulties that micro and small businesses encounter in obtaining financial support, reiterating the government’s commitment to exploring innovative funding options, including small grants and crowdfunding initiatives.
Kamikamica invited community members to participate in forthcoming public discussions on the Access to Business Funding Bill, which aims to introduce alternative financing solutions. The new excavator is set to improve operational capabilities, leading to enhanced production and greater efficiency, ultimately benefiting the local economy.
“This event showcases the resilience and creativity of our rural population. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing rural entrepreneurship and building a prosperous future for all Fijians,” he remarked.
Company director Vilikisa Sayabo expressed gratitude to the government for their support. “We established our business two years ago. By extracting gravel, we purchased a truck, but we still relied on renting an excavator from our contractor. With the government’s assistance this year, we followed the proper channels and acquired this machine. This excavator will simplify our tasks and potentially double our output, generating increased revenue,” he stated.
