A sub-clan in Nadi is experiencing a positive shift in business activities thanks to assistance from the Government. Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, who also serves as the Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, delivered a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd. This delivery signifies a crucial advancement in promoting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable development.

The new excavator is expected to alleviate the financial pressures on the company while significantly enhancing its productivity. The business has expanded into gravel extraction, making use of local resources to build a sustainable operation that benefits the members of Sikituru Village.

Mr. Kamikamica reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to offering equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the local community’s efforts in establishing a thriving business. He highlighted a government investment of $78,666.67, funded by the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, as a demonstration of confidence in rural enterprises’ ability to stimulate economic growth.

He acknowledged the difficulties that micro and small businesses often face in securing financing and reiterated the Government’s aim to seek innovative financing solutions, including small offers and crowdfunding.

The excavator is set to improve the company’s operations by increasing production capacity and operational efficiency, which will contribute to local economic advantages. “This event showcases the resilience and resourcefulness of our rural population. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing rural entrepreneurship and creating a prosperous future for all Fijians,” said Mr. Kamikamica.

Company director Vilikisa Sayabo expressed gratitude to the Government for the support received. He noted that their business, established two years ago, began with gravel extraction and involved previously hiring an excavator. With this new machine, they anticipate a doubling of production, leading to increased revenue opportunities.
