A sub-clan in Nadi is experiencing a boost in business following timely assistance from the government. Last week, Manoa Kamikamica, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, presented a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd in Nadi. This initiative marks a significant advancement in supporting rural entrepreneurship and promoting sustainable development.
The addition of the excavator will alleviate financial pressures for the company and enhance its productivity. By branching into gravel extraction, the company is utilizing local resources to establish a sustainable business model that will benefit its owners, the members of Sikituru Village.
Kamikamica reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the local community’s efforts in building a successful business. He noted that the $78,666.67 investment, financed through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, underscores the potential of rural enterprises in driving economic growth.
Acknowledging the difficulties faced by micro and small businesses in accessing financing, he reaffirmed the government’s focus on innovative financing methods, including small loan offerings and crowdfunding initiatives. He encouraged community members to participate in upcoming public consultations regarding the Access to Business Funding Bill, which aims to introduce new financing solutions.
The new excavator is expected to improve operations, leading to increased production and efficiency, which will provide greater economic benefits for the local community. Kamikamica stated, “The event is a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of our rural people. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering rural entrepreneurship and building a prosperous future for all Fijians.”
Company director Vilikisa Sayabo expressed gratitude to the government for their support. He explained, “We established our business two years ago. Through gravel extraction, we were able to purchase a truck but still relied on hiring an excavator from a contractor. This year, with the government’s assistance, we pursued the process to acquire this machine. The excavator will significantly ease our operations and double our production, resulting in increased revenue.”
